.................................
one of the impressions that i got looking at the photos of street fashion
and what i know of the traditional japanese garments, and my impressions from being in tokyo,
was the patterns and layers - in both tangible/physical and intangible/mental ways.
that was my departure point of how i got to these pieces...
plus, the patterns were so much fun to paint.
the anal side of me (whatever little is left over after being dominated by my laziness)
was having a ball painting with a tiny brush over and over.

Wow the patterns are a lovely addition to your work! The colors are unexpected but I totally love this direction for you. Your carefully brushstrokes were worth it in the end. Can't wait to see more!

ReplyDeletei'm not sure that i'd call this a new direction, but surely a good experiment i had fun with!
patterns were fun but not something i could keep up with consistently, i get too anal with them.
maybe if i could loosen up about it a bit in the future...
Oh I LOVE LOVE these new ones!!! The patterns are excellent... I love the colour scheme you chose... I find it very soothing :) In the second one, I love how she fades away towards the bottom :) You are awesome Stella!!! <3
