Portland
portland is one of my favorite cities, so we rented a car
and drove down for a road trip during our trip to seattle.
(above is some beautiful little alley & a red tree on ne alberta).
a mural inside upper playground by herbert baglione,
one of my favorite artists.
then another one (the guy at UP told me about) outside off e. burnside...
his shapes & details are so amazing!
awesome hand-carved sign at the hotel we stayed.
after having the above bacon maple bar donut,
along with stumptown coffee (how touristy of us),
we drove up randomly up burnside to the NW side.
we ended up going all the way up the hill (near washington park?)
and pulled over on this beautiful aqueduct :
it looked like something out of a fairy tale, all the houses
and broken spearhead like things.
i loved seeing so much green in the midst of the winter.
we drove up to seattle to catch our flight (& dinner) afterward,
and all the food we'd eaten are documented here.
sorry it took so long to post these photos...
today is the first day i feel a bit normal (cold & stomach virus),
but hopefully i'll get back to the swing of things soon now.
some continued ink plays and maybe landscape studies!
solo show : the insentient world @ roq la rue
i finally am getting around to posting the pictures from the show & the trip.
i've been back for a week, but i've been so damn sick i couldn't do much
other than lie around like wet noodles.
here are some pictures from the show - i didn't take many,
so i had to borrow from andrew & monica (the crowd shots):

studio mates + moma
experimenting with a large format for watercolor/ink.
the cats always get curious when i work on the floor.
i need a door to the studio. -_-;;
one more of their silliness :
~·≈·~·≈·~·≈·~·≈·~·≈·~·≈·~·≈·~
finally went to see marlene dumas exhibit at the moma.
i should probably write more about it later after seattle.
and some sculptural, gnarly trees at the moma :
i'm leaving for the show on thursday.
i'll probably post the pieces and about the show tomorrow.

Interview with Jinyoung Yu... 유진영.
i just made the long overdue post about the amazing korean sculptor, Jin-young Yu.
(i love her blog title : 억지 웃음, 가짜 설렘, 가식적 표정.)
i also helped Arrested Motion interview (& translate) her works.
(read the interview here)
here are my favorite shots... all the mess before the refinement:
just about when i got complacent about painting...
interviewing her and getting to know her "world" really was epiphanic.
for example, she did all that full-scale sculptural works in that tiny room above.
it's not her 'studio'. it's her sacrificed bedroom in her parents' house. O_O
and here i thought i'd need more space to make measly flat paintings!!
to be honest, i feel like i unknowingly treated my works as a "job".
maybe my last vestige from my efficiency-driven product designer days.
art does have a business side that can make you a little calculative.
i'm glad i caught myself before i got that bug.
i think i can let loose and be a little more free now.
and explore all possibilities without worrying.
