it's been a bloody week...

it's been about 10 days now since i had my bloody spill off my bike.
(yes that's my blood from my head on my bag).

i hurt my head and lost memory of that part of my life (initially a lot more),
but according to some witnesses, some pedestrian abruptly stepped out
into the bike lane on prince street in manhattan.

what a weird experience being at the hospital (even the trauma icu,
neck braces, cat scans), weirder because i don't recall most of the experience.

luckily i have most of my memory and brain power back,
and i am never leaving the house without my helmet anymore!
memory is such an odd thing. i never imagined being close to losing it.

this is the remnant of what took some of my memories away :

i still have a bump on my head, a bad scrape on my shoulder,
huge purple/green bruises all over my legs, and have trouble sleeping
on the side i have the head bump, but all in all, i feel lucky to
have come out relatively unscathed.

so these are some pictures from labor day,
which was my first bike ride since the accident...

crossword puzzles to help me get smarter.

biked down to the waterfront park.

and saw the hasidic jewish men boarding a boat on newtown creek!

ok enough rambling.
i've been pitifully convalescing all last week & weekend,
so hopefully some belated drawings will be posted sometime soon... ish.

How scary!! I can sort of relate to how some of this must have felt because when I had that seizure a couple summers ago, I woke up in the ICU with no memories of the past week or so and I still can't remember hardly anything from the entire year of 2007. It is scary to have such a chunk of memories just gone. I'm so glad that you're ok!

  6. Oh wow... I know this may sound weird coming from a stranger on the internet... But I'm really glad you're alright. That seems like quite a spill you took. It must've been really eery not being able to remember chunks of the events.

  11. great to hear you're healing great! & that there's no permanent damage!! I see the kids here in Europe wearing their bike helmets all the time, never leaving the house without them really. & somehow as we are just, maybe a decade older & never grew up with that frame of mind it's so hard 4 us to wear those ugly but damn useful things. I'm just the same, it never crosses my mind to put on that helmet when I'm just biking through town.

Really glad you're ok now though! B safe!

  14. wow, I hope you feel better and better everyday.
Taking spills is never fun, and memory loss that just sounds like a nightmare.
Those last two pictures are right outside the printing studio where I work!
That new park is so nice.

  15. I guess I could go on about feeling bad, but why not feel great that you are recovering and hopefully everything will soon be back to normal! :)

Oh! And I know helmets are never the most aesthetically pleasing creations (that must be especially annoying as an artist...) but there is a company that makes really cool helmets, that frankly, don't look like helmets at all:

  19. oh dear! :((
I had my one a couple years ago and the accident part of memory never comes back, in fact one doesn't need it that much. Wellbeing took me a few months to show back thou... but it ends showing again...
Thanks for the com on the sculptures! I was stressed by the always painting job and the moremore betterbetter rat race at the studio, and modeling clay has been a cure, and got me back the sensation I didn't want to leave the studio after hours of being there... then came technical issues taht made it even more interesting. And with your finesse at work, you'll flip!! Now I recommend it absolutely as a reset!!!!!!!!
